A Unique Feast With 10 Top New York Restaurants Is Happening In September

It isn’t usual to experience some of New York’s top restaurants by being whisked between them in a golf cart set up in a drive in theater. But that’s what’s going to happen on September 16th and 17th when The American Express Gold Card presents The Resy Drive-Thru New York, a collaboration between the credit card company and the booking platform, sets up shop at Skyline Drive-In in Brooklyn.

“We’re excited to partner with Resy and our dining partners to bring some of NYC’s best restaurants together under one roof for two nights only,” said Shibli Juneja, Vice President, US Consumer Premium Products at American Express. Apparently, this concept was borne out of research showing that consumers were more willing to dine out this summer and to do so with unique experiences. According to Amex Trendex, 55% of consumers said they were planning to spend more on dining out this year than last year; 73% of Millennials and Gen Z said they were willing to spend more money on one of a kind experiences than last year. So cue up the waterfront location, gold golf carts and constructed settings that range from a bodega to a subway station, ending in a block party complete with DJ.

Upon arrival, diners settle into their chauffeured golf cart to zip between restaurant pop ups for a 10 course tasting menu designed to showcase the diverse cultures and cuisines of New York such as Cantonese, Indian, Mexican, Italian, Persian, Middle Eastern, Regional American and American Soul Food. Among the restaurants involved: Dhamaka, the Lower East Side Indian restaurant and a very tough reservation to get; Harlem’s Soul Food icon Sylvia’s; the popular Williamsburg Cantonese American restaurant Bonnie’s; the Greenwich Village Middle Eastern restaurant Shuka, the global/seasonal restaurant Crown Shy and Danny Meyer’s Flatiron District American classic Union Square Café. The menu will include some of their most popular dishes, tweaked slightly for this event such as Bonnie’s Yao Yu (marinated grilled squid with olives, preserved lemon and herbs); Sylvia’s crab cake bites; chef Ayesha’s falafel sandwich wrapped in the bread laffa from Shuka; Dhamaka’s dilliwala butter chicken with jeera pulao and Crown Shy’s satsuma, vanilla, and meringue ice cream sandwich.

Tickets are $110, are available in groups of two or four and go on sale to the general public on August 17th. (American Express Gold Card members who linked their cards to their Resy accounts got first dibs today and those tickets sold out within hours.) Other perks for Gold Card members: an extra 11th course from Razza, the Jersey City pizzeria that recently received a rapturous review from the New York Times; a dozen bagels with cream cheese from bagel icon H&H Bagels for the next morning and two drinks at the block party.

This particular event is only available in New York but American Express and Resy are taking other events on the road to different cities starting with Amex® Gold Presents: Momofuku Noodle Bar on Tour powered by Resy. Superstar chef David Chang of Momofuku is bringing the Noodle Bar to five cities and doing a joint presentation with a local restaurant in each. Miami is the first city on October 9th and 10th with restaurant Jaguar Sun followed by Los Angeles on October 18th and 19th as a double Chang experience set in his outpost there Majordomo. The setting in Philadelphia on November 2nd and 3rd is Michael Solomonov’s Lilah; in Houston on November 8th and 9th, the Viet-Cajun restaurant Crawfish & Noodles and in Chicago for lunch and dinner on November 13th, the much in demand Italian restaurant Monteverde.
