Ryan Giggs to MISS Wales’ next three games after having his bail extended amid assault…

Ryan Giggs to MISS Wales’ three World Cup qualifiers this month after having his bail extended amid investigation into alleged assault of his girlfriend… as Wales FA chiefs and Manchester United legend ‘mutually agree’ to keep him out of the spotlight

  • Ryan Giggs will not be on the sidelines for Wales’ three upcoming matches
  • United legend was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend in November
  • His bail was extended until May 1 and it was ‘mutually agreed’ he will be absent
  • Assistant boss Rob Page will take charge, much like he did back in November

Ryan Giggs will be absent from the touchline for Wales’ next three matches after it was ‘mutually agreed’ he would not be involved in this month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The former Manchester United player was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and assault of his ‘on-off girlfriend’ Kate Greville in November. The 46-year-old, who denies the allegations, last month had his bail extended until May 1.

As was the case in November, his assistant Robert Page will take charge, ahead of two qualifiers against Belgium and the Czech Republic and a friendly with Mexico.

Back in November, police were seen parked outside Giggs’ home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, following reports of the disturbance involving 36-year-old PR worker Ms Greville.

Announcing the news of Giggs’ upcoming absence on Wednesday, an FAW statement read: ‘The Football Association of Wales (FAW) and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp.

‘Robert Page will take charge for the next three matches against Belgium, Mexico and the Czech Republic and will be supported by Albert Stuivenberg as was the case during the last international window in November. The squad for these upcoming matches will be announced on Monday 15th March.’

With three months until Wales are due to start their Euro 2020 campaign against Switzerland on June 12, it is not known who will take charge of the team for the tournament.

Although the team are performing well on the pitch, there is huge uncertainty off it. The FAW announced Jonathan Ford’s departure as chief executive on Tuesday after 12 years in the role, while there is a lack of clarity over both the men’s and women’s managers.

The women’s side are without a manager following the departure of Jayne Ludlow in January and the press release detailing Ford’s departure did not mention a replacement.

Giggs took charge of Wales in 2018 and the following led his country to qualification for Euro 2020, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and which is now due take place this summer.
