Amazon Prime Video took home the maximum trophies at the first edition of the FLYXX Filmfare OTT Awards, thanks to its top of the line shows such as Paatal Lok, Panchayat, The Family Man, Pushpavalli S2 and The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye. While Paatal Lok was a gritty political thriller, The Family Man was a slick actioner revolving around undercover operatives, while Panchayat was a situational comedy about rural India. Pushpavalli 2 was a dark comedy and The Forgotten Army took us back to the days of Indian National Army formed by Subhash Chandra Bose. Here’s taking a brief look at all the Amazon Prime Video winners
Paatal Lok
It was a gritty crime series and won big at the inaugural FLYX Filmfare OTT Awards. Paatal Lok won the Best Series, it’s directors Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy won the Best Director (Series), main lead Jaideep Ahlawat won the Best Actor in a Drama Series (Male), it also won the Best Original Story (Series), where Sudip Sharma, Sagar Haveli, Hardik Mehta and Gunjit Chopra took the trophy. The Best Screenplay (Series) was awarded to Sudip Sharma. Paatal Lok followed a determined but hard-on-his-luck policeman Hathiram Chaudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat) who investigates a botched assassination attempt and realises that there is a political agenda behind it all. It’s a game where there are no winners and which exposes the corruption prevalent in our society on all fronts.
The Family Man
It won the Best Series (Critics), its directors Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru won the Best Director (Critics) trophy, its male lead Manoj Bajpayee won the Best Actor in a Drama Series (Critics) award, its female lead Priyamani won the Best Actress in a Drama Series (Critics) trophy, and it also won the Best Dialogue trophy where Sumit Arora, Suman Kumar, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK took home the honours. The series revolved around a dedicated undercover operative Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee), who seems more of a penpusher than a leader of an anti-terrorist squad. He battles the enemies outside while keeping his cover of a docile family man. He has his hands full, considering his children are growing up fast and his wife too is pursuing changes of her own.
Panchayat
Jitendra Kumar won the Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Male) trophy for this situational comedy. Raghubir Yadav won the award for Best Actor in A Supporting Role in a Comedy Series (Male), while Neena Gupta won the Best Actor in A Supporting Role in a Comedy Series (Female) trophy. It also took home the Best Comedy (Series/Specials). The series revolved around the character of Abhishek Tripathi, who takes on the job of a panchayat secretary in a remote village as better prospects are hard to get by. He resents the post at first but later, when he comes to know the villagers better, grows into his job. The series acquainted us with the realities of rural life in a humorous way.
Pushpavalli S2
Sumukhi Suresh’s brilliant comedy series won her the award for the Best Actress in a Comedy Series (Critics) category. The series follows the misadventures of Pushpavalli Parsuraman (Sumukhi Suresh) as she deals with life and love in her own inimitable way. Besides garnering lots of laughter, the series also made us realise that we tend to more often than not categorise people on their looks and skin colour, something we must all learn to avoid.
The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye
Rajneesh Hedao won the Best Production Design (Series) award for this period drama, while Ayesha Khanna won the Best Costume Design (Series) award for it. Directed by Kabir Khan, the series is based on true events about the men and women in the Indian National Army (INA) created by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The series was praised for bringing to life the World War II era. It’s amazing detailing and some intense acting made it stand out.
