Re “Warning of Airline Job Cuts Fuels Calls for a New Stimulus Package” (news article, Aug. 26):
It makes sense for the suffering airlines to seek another bailout from the taxpayers. They are losing crazy amounts of money.
But first, it will be important to remember that these same airlines had cheerfully picked the pockets of the traveling public for years and enjoyed record profits.
Any further grants must be accompanied by strict rules: Freeze executive pay, stop stock buybacks and eliminate some of the hated fees (baggage, seat assignment, travel changes) that passengers have been forced to pay in addition to ticket costs.

To My Liberal Friends
To the Editor:
Your July 31 “Here to Help” column about disagreements included some of the most valuable advice I have read.
As a Republican and a Trump supporter, I am sometimes challenged about my views with a “how could you say that?” or “how could you possibly support that view (or person)?” This is often said to me with distaste and outrage.
I hope that your column will be read by my more liberal friends, who have a tendency to mock rather than to listen.
